First Photo Shoot

Just a few shots from Barricade's first shoot!

Working with barricade was phenomenal. He was very well-behaved and followed orders from Scottie very precisely. If all humans could act more like Barricade, my life, as a photographer, would be so much easier and enjoyable." – Nicholas Hall

Barricade is now Barricadè

Barricade has finally honed his command skills to a point where I think he's ready for professional work. We are going to try our hand at professional modeling and acting. We're very excited! If at any point I feel that Barricade is stressed or not enjoying himself I will immediately stop the work, but as long as he's having fun and its keeping his mind sharp (a thinking mind is a sharp mind) then I am fine with it. We go for our first professional photo shoot tomorrow. I'm so nervous. I've been working with him and he's a totally laid back guy but I have no idea if he will pose for a picture under all those lights. Wish us luck!

Beating The Heat with Barricade

Since our proximity dispute, Barricade has been finding new and creative ways to beat the blazing summer heat. He has all together stopped drinking from his water bowl that he shares with his Great Dane sister, Catherine, preferring only to drink from sinks. Any sink is fine, regardless of who (me) is using it.
I hope you are enjoying following my adventures with Barricade.

It's HOT in Memphis...

So, as per usual this time of year, it is about 10000 degrees in Memphis, TN. Barricade's answer to that is to blow hot breath in my face *constantly.* Here's a picture of him, literally right this second as I write this post.
He's breathing on me as I type. Barricade also feels that even though it is 10000 degrees outside, we should constantly be touching. All the time. You've heard of how Great Danes lean? Barricade takes that to an extreme. I love my dog, I just wish I could love him from at least 3 feet away during the summer.

And He's Grounded For The Whole Summer...

Barricade waiting to be seen at the Emergency Vet.
What He Ate...
Barricade had an exciting day yesterday. I decided to make a quick run to the grocery store last night at 9pm. I was home by 9:26pm, to find Barricade darting, with cat like moves, out of the pantry and into my bedroom to hide behind the bed. I'm currently in the process of packing up my house and moving which has made me basically loose my mind. I happened to leave the pantry door open while I was gone (which I never do). My *ENTIRE* house was covered in plastic bags, food, and best of all powdered sugar EVERYWHERE. Here's a list of everything Barricade ate in the 26 minutes I was at Kroger:
1. Bag of Brown Rice
2. Bag of Stevia
3. Bag of Powdered Sugar
4. Bag of Tostitos Chips
5. Bag of unpopped popcorn
6. One loaf of Cinnamon Swirl Bread WITH RAISINS (yes, poison control was called and the proper procedures followed because grapes are poisonous to dogs)
7. One loaf of Honey Wheat Bread
8. Several bags of 100 Calorie Cheez It snacks (pooped out intact wrapper)
9. Two 32oz bags of dog treats
10. 1 lbs of Chocolate

Needless to say we were at the E.R. until 2am and Mommy (I) was very, very unhappy.  Barricade farted all night and his poops have been very interesting, but other than that he is perfectly fine!

Our Meet-Cute...

Barricade about 5 minutes after I brought him home from the shelter.
Best Christmas gift ever...

A week before Christmas, last year, my friend who runs North Mississippi Great Dane Rescue called and asked me to pick up a Great Dane/Mastiff mix named Barricade from my local shelter. The shelter apparently didn't have a kennel large enough for Barricade to sleep in. I was supposed to pick him up and take him to another foster because my house was *full,* or so I thought. It was love at first sight. I immediately called Trista at NMSGDR and told her (politely asked) that I was going to be keeping Barricade at my house. Obviously, because he is so irresistible I wasn't able to let him go.
Barricade and me on Christmas Eve, 2012
Barricade and I met at the perfect time in my life. Last Christmas was the first Christmas I had with out my parents, because they both passed away unexpectedly. I like to tell myself that Barricade was their Christmas gift to me. They saw that he was sad because he didn't have a home and I was sad because I missed them so they brought us together. So, thanks Mommy & Daddy! Best Gift ever!
